How subscription billing works — billing periods and plan changes

This article answers the most common questions about billing periods, upgrades, downgrades, and subscription payments.

How the billing period works

Your subscription renews on exactly the same day and time you originally purchased it. For example, if you subscribed on January 8 at 5:49 PM, it will always renew on the 8th of each month at 5:49 PM.

You can check your current subscription status in the Manage Subscription section in the side menu.

Upgrading to a higher plan

An upgrade takes effect immediately. The system calculates a credit for the unused days on your current plan and deducts it from the full price of the new plan. You only pay the prorated difference.

You'll see the exact amount to pay on the confirmation screen before completing the change.

  1. Go to Manage Subscription.

  2. Click Upgrade Subscription.

  3. Select the new plan and confirm.

Downgrading to a lower plan

A downgrade takes effect at the start of your next billing period. Until then, your current plan and all its features remain active.

  1. Go to Manage Subscription.

  2. Click Downgrade Subscription.

  3. Select the new plan.

Important: If your current plan includes features not available on the lower plan (such as memberships or a higher course limit), those features will become unavailable once the new plan takes effect.

Order limit reset

The order counter resets at the beginning of each new billing period — not at the start of the calendar month. If you subscribed on March 15, the limit resets on the 15th of each month.

Monthly vs. annual subscription

Zenamu offers both monthly and annual subscriptions. With an annual subscription, you get one month free. You can switch between monthly and annual at any time — for details, see the article How to switch from a monthly to an annual subscription (and vice versa).

What happens when a payment fails

If the payment for a new period doesn't go through (e.g., due to an expired card, insufficient funds, or a low online payment limit), the system will automatically retry. Your account will remain active during this time.

If the payment fails repeatedly, your account will be switched to the free plan.

Important: Your clients won't lose the ability to book — even on the free plan, up to 30 orders per month are available.

Cancelling your subscription

If you decide to cancel your subscription, it will remain active until the end of the current billing period. After that, it won't renew and you won't be charged again. You can reactivate your subscription at any time.

  1. Go to Manage Subscription.

  2. Click Cancel Subscription.

  3. Confirm your decision.

What if I'm not using Zenamu for a while (e.g., during the summer break)

If your monthly subscription stays active, the system will automatically charge the next payment — including for periods when, for whatever reason, you don't plan to use Zenamu. It's not within the system's capabilities or ours to individually assess, for each studio, whether you want to use, pause, or cancel your subscription in a given month — or to monitor this on a per-customer basis.

That's why every customer can cancel their monthly subscription in advance at any time. The subscription stays active until the end of the period you've already paid for, and after that no further payment is charged. You can reactivate it again whenever you want.

Recommended steps before a summer break

If you know that you won't be actively using Zenamu for a certain period:

  1. Cancel your subscription before the next automatic payment date — in Manage SubscriptionCancel Subscription.

  2. You'll have full access to all features until the end of the current paid period.

  3. When you want to use the platform again, simply reactivate the subscription in Manage Subscription.

This way, you'll avoid an unintended renewal for the next period.

Important: We don't refund recurring payments that have already been processed. A monthly subscription works like any other prepaid service — the payment covers your right to use the service during that period, regardless of whether you actually used it. That's why we recommend cancelling the subscription in advance, before the next renewal date.

Payment methods

You can pay for your Zenamu subscription by credit or debit card via the Stripe payment gateway. The payment is charged automatically.
