A discount code is a code that clients enter when they book or buy something from your studio. It gives either a fixed-amount discount or a percentage discount. Each client can use the same code only once. This article isn't about gift vouchers, which hold money (see Create a Gift Voucher), or about a Discounted price on a class, which any client can choose without a code.
Discount codes aren't available on the free Getting Started plan and the Standard plan. You can use them on the Expert and Ultimate plans, during the trial, and on the older Lite and Professional plans.
How do I create a discount code?
Go to Settings › Marketing and promo › Discounts and vouchers. You'll find your codes in the Discount codes section.
Click Add discount code, fill in the code and its settings (see below) and click Save.
Tick Use discount codes. Clients see the field for a discount code when they book only when this checkbox is ticked and you have at least one code that hasn't expired.
Key settings
When creating a discount code, you can configure:
Code — the text clients type.
Code type — an amount (a fixed amount in a currency you choose) or a percentage.
Valid from and Valid until — the code only works between these dates.
Valid for — tick what the code can be used for: classes, courses, workshops/events, appointments, passes (entry passes and credit packs), recurring memberships, one-time memberships and videos. Recurring memberships and One-time memberships are separate options. Options that aren't part of your plan are greyed out.
Which prices can a discount code reduce?
Prices in money: both code types work. A fixed-amount code works only for prices in the same currency as the code.
Prices in credits: only a percentage code works. The discount is rounded to whole credits, so a code of 50% or more brings a 1-credit class down to 0 credits.
Prices in entries and make-up sessions: discount codes can't be used.
Membership prices on a class: when the client books with a membership, the field for a discount code isn't shown.
Recurring memberships: the code discounts only the first payment. See Recurring memberships: how discount codes apply (first payment only).
Custom price: when you add a participant with a custom price, a discount code isn't applied.
Important: Discount codes and gift vouchers can't be combined. On one booking or purchase, the client uses either a discount code or a voucher.
Before you launch a promotion
Test the code on a sample order to make sure the discount is applied correctly.
Verify that the code does not apply to products you did not intend to include.
Clearly communicate the promotion terms to your clients — which products are included and how long the code is valid.

FAQ
Why does the code only work for some clients?
Each client can use the same code only once. If a client has already used it, they will see an error. Also check that the code is still within its validity period, that the client is ordering a product the code is valid for, and that the price they chose can be discounted (see Which prices can a discount code reduce? above). When you add a client to a class or course yourself from the admin, the once-per-client rule doesn't apply. For more checks, see Discount code not working: step-by-step troubleshooting in the admin.
A client is trying to use a discount code but has a voucher — what happens?
Discount codes and vouchers can't be used together. While a voucher is selected, the field for a discount code is disabled, and while a discount code is applied, the client can't select a voucher. If the client wants to use the discount code instead, they need to remove the voucher from the payment first.
