What is video on demand and how to turn it on

An overview of video on demand in Zenamu: what it does, how to turn it on, and what you need to get started.

Video on demand is a Zenamu feature that lets you offer your clients a library of videos to watch online. You add videos with a link from Vimeo or YouTube, group them into playlists, and make them available through a membership, as a one-time purchase, or you can set certain videos to watch for free.

Clients watch your videos from the My videos section of their profile. That's their library, where they see every video they have access to (through a membership, after buying it, and so on).

What videos are good for

  • An add-on to live classes, or vlogs

  • A standalone online offering — if you also teach remotely, you can sell videos as a separate product.

  • Members-only content — make videos part of a membership as an extra perk.

What you need

  1. The Ultimate plan or a trial. The feature isn't available on lower plans.

  2. A Vimeo or YouTube account to upload your videos to. Zenamu doesn't host the videos themselves. You only add a link to a video you keep with one of these providers.

  3. For one-time sales, you also need at least one active payment method that clients can pay with: card (Stripe), PayPal, or bank transfer. For membership access, you don't need any of them.

Where to find the feature

You'll find the Videos section in the left-hand admin menu.

The section has these tabs:

  • Videos — your library of individual videos.

  • Playlists — themed sets that you group videos into.

  • Analytics — how many people watch your videos and how far they get through them.

  • Sales — an overview of one-time purchases of videos and playlists.

Full control over videos belongs to the Administrator role. The Manager role only sees the Analytics tab.

How clients get access

Clients can reach a video in two ways:

Way

How it works

Through a membership

On a playlist, you choose (⋯ → Membership access) which membership groups can access it. The Video access button in the header of the Videos section lets you open the whole library to selected memberships at once. Only a membership with Active status has access.

One-time purchase

A client buys a specific video or a whole playlist. They pay online (by card or PayPal), or by bank transfer, and get access for as long as you decide (for days, weeks, months, years, or permanently).

Videos marked as Free can be played by anyone, even without a purchase.

What happens if you downgrade your plan

If you move from the Ultimate plan to a lower one, existing clients keep their access: videos they bought or have through a membership stay available, and they can keep watching them in their My videos section. Your public video offering, however, gets hidden on your page. Until you switch back to Ultimate, you won't be able to add, edit, or publish videos, and clients won't be able to make new purchases.
