How to Create a Long-Term Course with Multiple Sessions

This article explains how to create a course in Zenamu: a series of sessions with fixed dates that clients book once for the whole course. If you only need a class that takes place regularly (for example every Monday) and clients book each date separately, you don't need a course — create a class and use Repeat, which can schedule classes up to 1 year after the first class. See Recurring classes with a custom interval (every 2 weeks, monthly).

You can start creating a course from two places:

  1. In the sidebar, open Courses & events, click Courses and then New course.

  2. In the Class schedule, click Add a new session, then select New course.

  • Fill in the course name, overall description, and all other required information.

  • On the right, set the First session date, the Time and the Number of sessions (2 to 40). The session dates are generated below, and you can edit individual dates if you need to.

Adding Different Descriptions per Session

  • Tick Add a more detailed description for each session.

  • Enter details for each session individually.

Setting the Course Price

Set the course price in the Price section. You can choose from payment options (cash, credits, or entries) or combine them.

If you also add a Price per session pricing option (as money, in credits or in entries), clients can book single sessions of the course that still have free spots, just like they would book classes. By default, single sessions can be booked from 1 day before the first session of the course — see When can clients book single sessions of a course?

Pricing strategy

The per-session price is typically set higher than the per-session rate of the full course. Clients who sign up for the whole course get a better deal per session, and you get greater certainty that the course will fill up.

Don't want to allow single-session bookings? You can configure this for each course individually. Simply remove all Price per session pricing options (Price per session, Price per session (in credits) and Price per session (in entries)). Clients can then only book the whole course.

You can also configure different payment methods as needed.

When can clients book single sessions of a course?

Single sessions can only be booked if the course has a Price per session pricing option and the session still has a free spot. When booking opens is one setting for all your courses: Settings › Bookings and rules › Bookings › Open course spots.

  • By default, single sessions can be booked from 1 day before the first session of the course. To change it, enter a different number of days in How long before the first session?

  • If you tick After the first session, single sessions can only be booked once the course has started.

Can clients join a course after it has started?

A common situation is when someone misses the start of the course (typically the first session) but still wants to attend the rest. Rather than making them book each remaining session individually — which could be tedious for a 10-session course and might discourage the purchase — you can let them book the remaining sessions at a reduced price. In the course form, go to the Booking remaining sessions after the course starts section and tick Allow. The price is calculated automatically:

Automatic Price Calculation

Zenamu calculates the price automatically: Price = (Total Price / Number of Sessions) × Number of Remaining Sessions

For example, a course with 10 sessions priced at €100 (€10 per session). If a client registers from the 3rd session, missing the first two, the price would be: 100 - (2 × 10) = €80.

If you don't want this option, leave Allow unchecked (it's unchecked by default for a new course). Clients then can't book the whole course once it has started; they can only book single sessions if the course has a Price per session. This setting only affects clients booking themselves — you can always add a client to a running course with Add participant. More in How Is the Total Price Calculated for a Course That Has Already Started?

How do I show a course on the schedule without online booking?

If you want to manage enrollment entirely on your own and only add participants manually, open Advanced booking settings in the course form and tick Don't let clients book this class. The course stays visible on your public schedule, but clients can't book it online — neither the whole course nor single sessions. You add clients yourself with Add participant in the course detail. If the course shouldn't appear on the public schedule at all, tick Course isn't publicly visible instead.

Additional Settings

These are all the settings you can configure for each individual course. For settings shared across all courses — like cancellation rules or enrollment timing — see Common Course Settings.
