Common Course Settings

This article covers settings that apply to all your courses at once: when single sessions of a course can be booked (Open course spots), cancellation and make-up rules, extra booking questions and description limits. Settings for one course (price, Price per session, joining after the start) are explained in How to Create a Long-Term Course with Multiple Sessions.

When can clients book single sessions of a course (Open course spots)?

When a course does not fill to capacity, the remaining spots can be offered as single sessions, similarly to classes. This helps fill up your sessions even if the course is not completely full. It only works for courses that have a Price per session pricing option, and only for sessions that still have a free spot.

To prevent someone who just wants to attend a single session from blocking others from buying the entire course (which wouldn't be possible if one session is already at full capacity), you decide when single sessions become bookable. The time is always counted from the first session of the course, not from each individual session:

  • How long before the first session? — the number of days before the first session of the course from which single sessions can be booked. The default is 1 day.

  • After the first session — if you tick this, single sessions can only be booked once the course has started.

To adjust these settings, go to: Settings > Bookings and rules > Bookings > Open course spots. The setting applies to all courses.

Don't want to allow single-session bookings?

You can configure this for each individual course. Simply remove all Price per session pricing options from the course (Price per session, Price per session (in credits) and Price per session (in entries)).

Setting Cancellation Conditions for Course Bookings

See the dedicated guide on cancellation conditions and make-up sessions, which also explains how make-up sessions work from the client's perspective.

Custom Booking Form Extensions for Courses

You can display up to 3 custom questions before course enrollment. Set these up in Settings > Bookings and rules > Custom booking form fields > Extra questions for course registrations.

Tip

If you need different questions for different courses or more than 3 questions, consider using a free tool like Google Forms and include a link in the course description.

How long can the course description be?

The description editor in Zenamu is a WYSIWYG (rich-text) editor, so you can use bold, italics, headings, lists, and links. Because formatting is stored as HTML, the limit is counted on the full HTML content — the visible text plus the formatting tags around it.

Below the editor you'll see a progress bar with a "limit: X%" indicator that updates as you type:

  • Up to 79 % — neutral grey, plenty of room left.

  • 80–94 % — orange warning, you're getting close to the limit.

  • 95–100 % (or above) — red error and the form can't be saved until you trim the text or remove some formatting.

Limits per content type

Each entity has its own limit, designed to fit how the description is used:

  • Course description — up to 6 000 characters (HTML).

  • Workshop / event long description — up to 7 000 characters.

  • Class (open class) description — up to 1 250 characters.

  • Instructor bio — up to 1 024 characters.

  • Studio "About us" — up to 500 characters.

Why does heavy formatting eat the limit faster? A simple word like welcome takes 7 characters. Wrapping it in bold (<strong>welcome</strong>) takes 24. If your bar jumps higher than expected, you've likely added a lot of formatting, links, or pasted styled text from elsewhere — paste as plain text or simplify the formatting to free up space.
